Eye problem for the children can be said to be one of the most common problem that the children are presently fraught with. According to the survey reports about 25% of the children have been suffering from eye related problems. This impairs their normal learning ability. The children these days spend a lot of time in recreational activities, and lack of proper vision, prevents them from participating whole heartedly in these activities. Sports no longer seem to be fun for these children whose visions are impaired. There are several factors associated with poor vision, below are stated the major factors:

  • Watching television from a close proximity
  • Reading a book, holding it too close
  • Using fingers while reading
  • Squinting
  • A child tilting his or her head for better vision
  • Rubbing eyes frequently
  • Excessive sensitivity to light
  • Closing the eyes frequently to be able to read or see better
  • Staying away from activities like home work, reading
  • Suffering from tired eyes or frequent headaches
  • Poor academic performances and receiving less than usual grades
  • Staying away from computers

If you notice any of the symptoms, you must not hesitate to visit a doctor, for learning disabilities is a serious problem which needs to be considered extremely seriously. Children between the age group of one to seven are frequently fraught with these problems; however the symptoms go unnoticed till they reach the pre school level. Refractive error is one of the common problems that the children of this age are fraught with.

According to AOA or American Optometric Association, eye examination for children is extremely important while they are six months of age, again by the time they are 3years, eye check ups become imperative. This way, the doctors can evaluate the present health of the eye, and thereby prescribe medicines depending up on the present situation. On the basis of another study about 80% of the kindergarten students suffer from visionary problems. The parents need to take up active role, before it is too late.
